The female nude as art is as old as history, from the Venus of Willendorf to Greek urns to Raphael and Botticelli. With the advent of photography, the medium may have expanded, but the subject matter hasn't. Some of the earliest subjects of photography were nude women. And despite the advent of high quality color film, black and white photography is still very widely used, and women are perhaps the most numerous subjects of the art form. As a photographer, I love both black and white photography as well as the female nude (my wife and some then-girlfriends have been among my favorite models). |
